Sound Transit’s obligations, shout out to Mr. Hoff, thankful for legislators

Thank you, legislators Many thanks to District 30’s State Sen. Claire Wilson and our State Representatives Jamila Taylor and Jesse Johnson for appearing at the April 5 Federal Way City Council meeting and sharing the results of their work on behalf of their Federal Way constituents. Senator Wilson worked hard on housing issues, supporting two … READ MORE

They’re raising grandkids with little help, and during a pandemic. Can’t we lend them a hand?

Most days, the massive unfairness of the world cannot crush Ollie Reeves. Most days, the 76-year-old calls on her faith in God and family to help her raise her two grandchildren, Montrey, 14, and Destiny, 10, amid a pandemic. Most days, the retiree plunges into her savings, accumulated as a Boeing shuttle driver, to pay … READ MORE

WA officials want to end fees charged to parents for kids’ jail time

The day that Tracy Oakes learned his son had been stopped by police and arrested for riding in a stolen car was a bad one. The afternoon he learned that 16-year-old Trace would be sentenced to nearly two months’ incarceration at the Naselle Youth Camp was worse. But the morning Oakes opened a letter from … READ MORE

Day #174 on my walk back to the Senate was another busy day…

🚩 Daily check-in with #TeamWilson…✅

🚩 Weekly check-in with the full campaign #TeamWilson…✅

🚩 Had the pleasure of presenting at the Bridge Conference in Tacoma - for those working in the before/after school space, working in youth development/youth leadership, as well as administrators, grant writers, etc. Groups represented include Schools Out WA, Communities In Schools WA, etc. It was fun to run into so many folks I’ve worked with over the years, still doing this most important work with our young people.

The words I shared were related to the ongoing support that will be needed to continue to lift up, and demand funding streams for those programs in the prevention and youth development space - before intervention programs which are more expensive. It was an honor to share my thoughts and also thank them for all their work over the last two years. I ended by reading a passage from #HoorayForUs, a favorite of mine…👧🏻🧒🏻🧒🏼

🚩 Planned to go on my daily walking and knocking and talking to voters - then the rains came and getting back and forth to both events scheduled on my calendar was how I spent my afternoon and evening…🚗🚪🚶‍♀️

🚩 Ended my day on a very positive note. Honored to be able to attend Green River College Foundation Hanford Scholarship and Award Dinner where the 2022 Scholarship Recipients were celebrated and Erin Jones was honored with the inaugural D.R. Hanford Leadership Award. Lots of long time friends and supporters there tonight. Proud to be among them. 👏🏼🎤 ❤️
